"A nation can survive its fools, and even the ambitious. But it cannot survive treason from within. An enemy at the gates is less formidable, for he is known and carries his banner openly. But the traitor moves amongst those within the gate freely, his sly whispers rustling through all the alleys, heard in the very halls of government itself. For the traitor appears not a traitor; he speaks in accents familiar to his victims, and he wears their face and their arguments, he appeals to the baseness that lies deep in the hearts of all men. He rots the soul of a nation, he works secretly and unknown in the night to undermine the pillars of the city, he infects the body politic so that it can no longer resist. A murder is less to fear." [Marcus Tullius Cicero]
Eric says:
This perfectly describes the Democrat party. A Roman said this thousands of years ago but the average U.S. citizen is so mired in debt, commercialism, materialism and distraction by televised propaganda and our youth is so swayed by educational liberalization and expectation of government salvation that they can’t muster the intestinal fortitude to even begin to fathom the wisdom above as stated by a man who begged for Rome to return to a Republican government. Alas, he was ignored and thus began the fall of the Roman Empire which was due to immorality, dependence on government to provide for the masses, lack of self control, lack of personal responsibility and apathy towards civic duties and labor. History repeats itself. We are the modern day Roman Empire and we haven’t even seen the tip of the iceberg that is lurking in our society and beneath our economy.
