WHY I AM A LIBERAL DEMOCRAT
A Day in the Life of Joe Republican
Joe gets up at 6 a.m. and fills his coffeepot with water to prepare his morning coffee. The water is clean and good because some tree-hugging liberal fought for minimum water-quality standards.
With his first swallow of water, he takes his daily medication. His medications are safe to take because some stupid Democrat liberal fought to ensure their safety and that they work as advertised.
All but $10 of his medications are paid for by his employer's medical plan because some liberal union workers fought their employers for paid medical insurance - now Joe gets it too.
He prepares his morning breakfast, bacon and eggs. Joe's bacon is safe to eat because some girly-man liberal fought for laws to regulate the meat packing industry.
In the morning shower, Joe reaches for his shampoo. His bottle is properly labeled with each ingredient and its amount in the total contents because some crybaby liberal Democrat fought for his right to know what he was putting on his body and how much it contained.
Joe dresses, walks outside and takes a deep breath. The air he breathes is clean because some environmentalist wacko liberal fought for the laws to stop industries from polluting our air.
He walks on the government-provided sidewalk to subway station for his government-subsidized ride to work. It saves him considerable money in parking and transportation fees because some fancy-pants broad-minded liberal fought for affordable public transportation, which gives everyone the opportunity to be a contributor.
Joe begins his work day. He has a good job with excellent pay, medical benefits, retirement, paid holidays and vacation because some lazy Democrat liberal union members fought and died for these working standards. Joe's employer pays these standards because Joe's employer doesn't want his employees to call the union.
If Joe is hurt on the job or becomes unemployed, he'll get a worker compensation, benefits of the Family Medical Leave Act that assure he still has his job when he returns to work, or unemployment check because some stupid compassionate liberal didn't think he should lose his home because of his temporary misfortune.
It is noon time and Joe needs to make a bank deposit so he can pay some bills. Joe's deposit is federally insured by the FSLIC because some godless liberal wanted to protect Joe's money from unscrupulous Republican bankers who ruined the banking system before the Great Depression.
Joe has to pay his Fannie Mae-underwritten mortgage and his below-market federal student loan because some elitist Democrat liberal decided that Joe and the government would be better off if he was educated and earned more money over his lifetime.
Joe also forgets that in addition to his federally subsidized student loans, he attended a state funded university.
Joe is home from work. He plans to visit his father this evening at his farm home in the country.
He gets in his car for the drive. His car is among the safest in the world because some America-hating progressive liberal fought for car safety standards to go along with the tax-payer funded roads.
He arrives at his boyhood home. His was the third generation to live in the house financed by Farmers' Home Administration because Republican bankers didn't want to make rural loans.
The house didn't have electricity until some big-government liberal Democratic reformer stuck his nose where it didn't belong and demanded rural electrification. He is happy to see his father, who is now retired.
His father lives on Social Security and a union pension because some wine-drinking, cheese-eating progressive liberal made sure he could take care of himself so Joe wouldn't have to.
Joe gets back in his car for the ride home, and turns on a radio talk show. The radio host keeps saying that liberals are bad and conservatives are good.
He doesn't mention that the beloved Republicans have fought against every protection and benefit Joe enjoys throughout his day. Joe agrees: "We don't need those big-government liberals ruining our lives! After all, I'm a self-made man who believes everyone should take care of themselves, just like I have."
Ah! But Joe can celebrate with Republican friends how they cut and ran in Korea, cut and run in Vietnam and this, the 1912th day since “Mission Accomplished” was declared in Baghdad.

You think what you wrote is balanced? It is amusing but not something that people take seriously. Good try though, that's what good liberals are...trying.
You left out World War II under FDR, (a Democrat) shame on you! Lyndon Baines Johnson (a Democrat that got us into Vietnam) See, if you are going to use history don't just use it to benefit your liberal views.
We might as well just go completely Socialist in this country with all the liberal wacko views of what big government can do for us.
By the way, liberals in Charlotte, NC are not classified as the wine and cheese crowd. It's the professional conservative folks that comprise the wine and cheese crowd here in Charlotte. We love to live life here and keep the government out of our pockets. Are you ready for Hussein's big tax increase? I hope he gets you libs hard with his taxes among other things.
Thanks, Bill, for reminding these ungrateful and in-denial conservatives of all the good liberals and progressives have done for this society during the past 75 years. Betty could not find a factual error in it, could she!
And Betty, a little history for you--In WWII, Japan attacked us and Germany then declared war on us as did Italy. It did not matter who the President was on 12-7-41. Japan attacked to destroy our Pacific fleet, as it was the only thing that stood in the way of Japan's imperial aspirations. Japan also attacked Great Britain's warships in the Hong Kong and Singapore area that same weekend for the same reason. But Democrat FDR managed to provide the leadership needed to save Great Britain, liberate France and the low countries, destroy Japan's war making ability, and ultimately win the war. Although Truman, also a Democrat, ordered the atom bomb dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, it was FDR who ordered the creation of the bomb. So let's not blame FDR for WWII, unless you want to blame him for winning it.
Any accusation that he is responsible for starting it is historically untenable.
And there is absolutely no danger of this country going socialist. Democrats are capitalists too. Big Government does not equate to socialism anyway. Socialism is government ownership of the means of production.
Dear Bill and Bob Liberal,
FDR started this country on the road to socialism. The only thing I agree with is Mr. Bills adjectives describing liberals. They are so true and spoken as only a true liberal would speak of themselves!
I had to laugh when you said that I couldn't find a factual error in what Mr. Bill said. The whole thing was a factual error! You libs are just like ALGORE who invented The Internet and oh...Global Warming. Progressive liberals are dangerous! What about the Dems up in WI running away instead of doing their job? They should be run out of Congress. Now, we are going to experience Dems in Indiana leave to keep from voting. Labor unions don't do anything for Americans. I watched my Dad struggle for many years trying to scrape together union dues for himself and his employees and he got nothing from his labor union. Corruption reins with the labor unions and they have all their liberal weenies in their pockets.
Drink some more Kool-Aid Mr. Bob to keep yourself convinced that progressive Democrats aren't trying to take us down the socialist road!
Your Higher Power President (as he thinks he is) has screwed this country over so bad. He never does anything because he doesn't know what to do except kiss the ring of a Saudi King. Wonder how you and Mr. Bill Liberal will do with Islamic radicals when they try to infiltrate our country.
By the way, what book has all these great accomplishments documented that Mr. Bill said the libbies have done through the years? If one of the authors is named Piven, none of that counts!
